Abu Qir Thermal Power Plant
Case Study
- Abu Qir Thermal Power Plant is equipped with five steam turbine generators
of a total output of 900 MW.
- The contract for units 1-4 was signed in 1979 introducing the 150 MW units
into the Egyptian electricity market.
- Units 1-4 were commissioned in 1983 - 1984 as the first highest rating
units in the Unified Power System of Egypt.
- It is the first Power Plant built as "Environment-Friendly" Power
Plant; introduced the Dual Firing Burners concept.
- Early in 1989, the contract for unit 5 (1x300 MW) was signed. The
commissioning was in 1991.
