Cairo metro contracts signed

On 29 April, Alstom signed two contracts for the Cairo metro, in Cairo and in the presence of , Ahmed Nazif, Egyptian Prime Minister, Mohamed Mansour, Egyptian Minister of Transport and Christine Lagarde, French Minister for Foreign Trade.

The contracts cover:
  • signalling and telecommunications, led by the Alstom (leader)/Thalès/Orascom consortium, for a total of 29.8 million euros, of which 17.6 million go to Alstom
  • civil engineering and electromechanical equipment, led by the Vinci (leader)/Bouygues/Spie/Alstom/Thalès/Orascom consortium, for a total of 345 million euros, of which 38 million go to Alstom.
These orders relate to phase 1 (4.3km) of line 3 of the Cairo metro which will, from 2022, link the district of Imbaba to the airport. The line will eventually extend to 33 kilometres.
