transport 50,000
passengers per hour.
Alstom has created
the first ever train-management system
using communication
based train control
(CBTC) technology,
which allows constant radio contact between
the train and the control centre, thus making it possible to reduce times

Alstom set this new record with its partners,
SNCF and RFF, using
a trainset build around
locomotives and double-decker Duplex cars
especially equipped for the record attempt and using motorized bogies that will
feature on the next generation of very high speed trains, the AGV.

The growing complexity of technical solutions and infrastructure projects
is leading increasing numbers of customers to demand complete solutions.
Present in over 60 countries, with 26,000 employees, ALSTOM Transports
strength lies in its ability to manage entire transport systems.
In 1984, our Transport sector established an official presence in Egypt,
heart of the Middle East, to meet its various and integrated demands.
ALSTOM Transport Egypt Branch, which started its activities with 30
people, currently employs nearly 100 Transport employees in Egypt, in various
activities: engineering for signalling and telecom projects, erection, testing
and commissioning as well as maintenance and guarantee.
Cairo Metro Lines 1 and 2 rank among the major projects in which
ALSTOM has participated as a member of INTERINFRA consortium that
executed the works. (See Case Studies section in the website).
INTERINFRA has also been awarded the contract of Line 2 Fifth Extension (Phase
2C, El Monib-Sakkiet Mekki), inaugurated in January 2005.
ALSTOM is well known for most of the Cairo Underground Metro users as
ALSTOM's sign (previously spelled "ALSTHOM"), on most of its
rolling stock, is a constant reminder of our involvement in this giant project.
Cooperation continued with NAT, as ALSTOM signed in 2007 two contracts
on the Cairo Metro Line 3, Phase I: signalling and telecommunications, as
Consortium leader with Thalès, and civil engineering and
electromechanical equipment, in a consortium led by Vinci, with Bouygues,
ColasRail, Thalès, Orascom and Arab Contractors Co..
The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) ordered 30 shunting Diesel-Electric
Locomotives mid 2001 to ALSTOM. The signalling maintenance of the main
rail line, Cairo-Alexandria, represented also one of our main contracts with
ENR.
